I was asked to post the origins of the hammered dulicmer,Here is the orgins as best as I can explain.This instrument is generally credited to have began about 2,000 years ago in the area of Iran&Iraq,then called Pursia,where it was called a santur.In different parts of the world it is called different names.too many to list here. I can suggest that you google the hammered dulicmer,and you will find several different sources to read.one of the soirces is Wikipedia,there are others.All I know is that I enjoy listening to the different tapes and c/ds that i have.I will admit that I have not played my dulicmer regularly for a long time,partially due to the seizures,I’m afraid of falling on it and distroying it.Someting that I do not want to due since it cost me a lot of money when I bought it.I had also bought a bunch of different books with music for the dulicmer and had taken some lessions.
I do hope that I have shead som light on this instrument that berings me such pleasure,even if I cannot play it my self.
